Why are eSigning timestamps shown in UTC instead of local time?

You may notice that timestamps within the platform, particularly in eSigning and audit trails, are displayed in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) rather than your local time zone.

Why UTC is used

UTC is the global standard for timekeeping and is commonly used across digital platforms, especially in systems involving legal documentation and signatures.

Using UTC ensures:

  • Consistency across all users, regardless of location
  • Accuracy in multi-party transactions, where signers may be in different time zones
  • Legally defensible audit trails, with a single, standardised time reference

Can I change the time zone?

No — timestamps are fixed to UTC and cannot be changed to a local time zone within the platform.

How to interpret UTC time

To convert UTC to your local time, simply apply your local time offset. For example:

  • Queensland (AEST) = UTC +10 hours

Summary

UTC is used to ensure a consistent, reliable, and legally sound record of activity across all users and regions. While it may differ from your local time, it provides a single source of truth for all transactions.
